Vishranthi: Home for Aged Destitute Women
This project focused mainly on interactions and human connection. Vishranthi, an old age home for destitute and abandoned women, is located in Chennai, India. It consists of over a hundred grandmas who have no contact with their family, or anybody. They were abandoned and found in public locations such as a train station. They have nobody but each other. Hence, are quite often lonely and upset.
For this project, I decided to form a team to help lift their spirits and bring them joy. Our team visited more than twice a month and conducted different interactions. We hosted game nights, dance performances, paint nights and so on. Once we created a bond with all the grandmas, we realized that what makes them the happiest is being able to share their own tales and experiences. Hence, we decided to interview them and create a capsule with their stories. These women weren’t able to share their stories and experiences with their own family. Hence, we believed sharing these with a larger demographic would bring them happiness as well as spread awareness on the issue of abandonment of old aged people.
We created a facebook page to share their stories: https://www.facebook.com/vishranthi01
